A Little Dog Angel

By Noah M. Holland

High up in the courts of heaven today
a little dog angel waits;
with the other angels he will not play,
but he sits alone at the gates.
“For I know my master will come” says he,
“and when he comes he will call for me.”

The other angels pass him by
As they hurry toward the throne,
And he watches them with a wistful eye
as he sits at the gates alone.
“But I know if I just wait patiently
that someday my master will call for me.”

And his master, down on earth below,
as he sits in his easy chair,
forgets sometimes, and whispers low
to the dog who is not there.
And the little dog angel cocks his ears
and dreams that his master’s voice he hears.

And when at last his master waits
outside in the dark and cold,
for the hand of death to open the door,
that leads to those courts of gold,
he will hear a sound through the gathering dark,
a little dog angel’s bark.

Tribute to a Best Friend

By Unknown Author

Sunlight streams through window pane onto a spot on the floor…
then I remember,
it’s where you used to lie, but now you are no more.

Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound…
then I remember,
it’s where your paws would joyously abound.

A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill,
then I remember,
it can’t be yours — your golden voice is still.

But I’ll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall,
and lay them with the absent voice and unused dish along the wall.

I’ll wrap these treasured memories in a blanket of my love,
and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.

Can you see me, I am here
I will always be near you,

and to make you smile at the memories
Do you feel me, perhaps a soft brush of fur
You ache to believe it’s real

But it was I, whispering
I am only here for a moment

Lend Me A Pup

By Unknown Author

I will lend to you for awhile a puppy, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and to mourn for him when he is gone.
Maybe for 12 or 14 years, or maybe for 2 or 3
But will you, till I call him back
take care of him for me?

He’ll bring his charms to gladden you and
(should his stay be brief)
you’ll always have his memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise that he will stay
since all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.

I’ve looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true,
And from the fold that crowd life’s land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labor vain,
nor hate me when I come to take
my pup back again?

I fancied that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, They Will Be Done,”
For all the joys this pup will bring
the risk of grief you’ll run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness,
Will you love him while you may?
And for the happiness you’ll know
forever grateful stay?

But should I call him back
much sooner than you’ve planned,
please brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.
If, by your love, you’ve managed
my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that you’ve loved,
cherish every moment with your faithful bundle,
and know he loved you too.

BEAR AND HIS BEST FRIEND

Too love a Dog:

Oh where did all the year’s go ?
When you were so furry and so small
A bundle of love from Heaven
When first we said “Hello” ~

And then the Journey did begin
From puppyhood to rings :
You worked so hard my precious dog
And brought home all the ribbon things

We traveled, loved, and played,
our bond growing deeper, day by day:
We walked, and ran, and sang a song
With me you knew, you would always stay ~

Oh the Journey that we shared
Will forever live.
Deeply embedded in my heart
My dog that always give’s

I love your goofy smile,
As we shared our days away
You and me my dog,
Together ! We went all the way ~

You were there to hold my tear’s
My laughter and my woe’s
You were always there
But ! Soon it’s time to let you go=20

You lay upon my feet right now=20
But, tomorrow another day,
Will it be then, my dear Lord ?
Oh No! that is what I pray ~

But, for you my dog, I know
I must somehow find the strength
To keep my promise to you
Remember ? we put that in the bank ~

And so, when that tomorrow comes
And we share our last hug and kiss
May you know now, my beloved dog:
How much you will be missed ~

I will set your spirit free
and you will soar upon the skies
To meet my family gone from Earth
You know, we never say “Good Bye”

And ” Tomorrow” will come too soon
When I must let you go
With tears, sadness and sigh’s
To that special place God only knows,

I know you will always be with me
Because we never say “GoodBye”
As I touch the chamber’s of my heart
I will hear you sigh ~

SO, to you my ” Beloved Dog”
we will never be apart
because you will always live
deeply in the chambers of my heart ~

Beauby Jimmy Stewart

He never came to me when I would call Unless I had a tennis ball, Or he felt like it, But mostly he didn’t come at all. When he was young He never learned to heel Or sit or stay, He did things his way. Discipline was not his bag But when you were with him things sure didn’t drag. He’d dig up a rosebush just to spite me, And when I’d grab him, he’d turn and bite me. He bit lots of folks from day to day, The delivery boy was his favorite prey. The gas man wouldn’t read our meter, He said we owned a real man-eater. He set the house on fire But the story’s long to tell. Suffice it to say that he survived And the house survived as well. On the evening walks, and Gloria took him, He was always first out the door. The Old One and I brought up the rear Because our bones were sore. He would charge up the street with Mom hanging on, What a beautiful pair they were! And if it was still light and the tourists were out, They created a bit of a stir. But every once in a while, he would stop in his tracks And with a frown on his face look around. It was just to make sure that the Old One was there And would follow him where he was bound. We are early-to-bedders at our house– I guess I’m the first to retire. And as I’d leave the room he’d look at me And get up from his place by the fire. He knew where the tennis balls were upstairs, And I’d give him one for a while. He would push it under the bed with his nose And I’d fish it out with a smile. And before very long He’d tire of the ball And be asleep in his corner In no time at all. And there were nights when I’d feel him Climb upon our bed And lie between us, And I’d pat his head. And there were nights when I’d feel this stare And I’d wake up and he’d be sitting there And I reach out my hand and stroke his hair. And sometimes I’d feel him sigh and I think I know the reason why. He would wake up at night And he would have this fear Of the dark, of life, of lots of things, And he’d be glad to have me near. And now he’s dead. And there are nights when I think I feel him Climb upon our bed and lie between us, And I pat his head. And there are nights when I think I feel that stare And I reach out my hand to stroke his hair, But he’s not there. Oh, how I wish that wasn’t so, I’ll always love a dog named Beau.

Dogs, lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. ”― Dean Koontz

MISS DIAMOND

Until We Meet in Heaven

“Our Diamond was a surprise 10th birthday present for our son, David. We arrived at Sharon’s house in Hartsville, SC and David still did not know why we were there. She led him out to her backyard and when he saw all those puppies pouncing around, tears started streaming down his face. Diamond was perfect for David, we all just sensed that she was his even though there were lots of choices. The joy and love of having Diamond in our family for 10 years cannot be put into words. We honored her with a cross made out of tennis balls because she likes nothing better than fetching tennis balls out of the pool. She could get 2 in her mouth at once! Yes, she will always be in our “hearts”, but we spelled it “Harts” on her grave stone because she was born in Hartsville. Thank you Sharon for a dog like none other.”

WE WILL NEVER HAVE A GOLDEN LIKE YOU ” SOMEDAY I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN” MY MISS SALLY.
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
“It’s me, I haven’t left you, I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.”

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me, to be so near you everyday.Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I might stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest — and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.”

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away.

Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I’m easy to find. I am wherever there is love.

SO PROUD OF WENDY N RASCAL R.I.P.

December 28, 2015 at 7:08pm ·
As many of you know my oldest Golden, Rascal, has been doing Therapy work for the last 12 years in a variety of settings. He was an amazing dog who rarely had a bad day. In 2013, he was diagnosed with Cancer and Valley Fever and went on to beat the odds and survive both.
On Christmas Eve morning, I lost Rascal after his heart finally gave out at 13 years 1 day. Just like Rascal, always being the perfect dog, he did not make me decide but quietly died while I had him at the Vet’s. The same day we found out Rascal was awarded the Animal Care and Control’s Service to the Community HERO award for 2015. Unfortunately, he must be alive to receive the award. The folks at Animal Care and Control were wonderful and immediately proposed that they give the award to Diva and include that it was originally for Rascal and the wonderful work he did.

MAKING THAT FINAL DECISION TO SAY GOOD-BYE

You’re giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it’s the only way.
That strength is why I’ve followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I’ve loved you all these years…
My partner till the end.
Please, understand just what this gift
You’re giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I’ve lost,
And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that’s within you,
To now grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.
And don’t despair my passing,
For I won’t be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I’ll stay.
I’ll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I’ll run,
… a young dog once again.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I’m not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said ” it’s me.”

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, “I never went away.”
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew…
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It’s possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, “I never went away.”

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew…
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over… I smile and watch you yawning
and say “Good-night, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning.”

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I’ll rush across to greet you and we’ll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out… then come home to be with me.
